7ELW Overview

7ELW Employment Law is an optional module for the CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management. It covers present and future trends in employment law.

What is the Module's Purpose and Objective?

The employment Law section is meant to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to brief organisations on the potential ramifications of current and future employment law developments. Additionally, following completion, it enables learners to provide up-to-date and accurate guidance regarding the practical application of legal principles at work.

The session will familiarise learners with the fundamental concepts that underpin UK (or Irish) and EU employment law, as well as the primary defences that employers utilise in court. Additionally, it enables learners to consider the potential financial and reputational costs and dangers connected with losing the case.

Additionally, emphasis is placed on scenarios that occur relatively frequently in work environments, rather than on rare or obscure legal issues, as well as on advanced knowledge of legislation or case law.

Without a question, the module continues to expand in terms of complexity and volume. As a result, the number of regulations governing employment relations and the workplace has increased significantly. Employment Law has recently included requirements on public agencies to promote equality.

An organisation is free to seek expert counsel from external legal advisers on more complicated and unprecedented matters. Senior human resource professionals, on the other hand, must be aware on the regulatory environment's major, existing, and future developments. As such, an organisation should be adequately prepared in advance of implementing recommended decisions or plans in order to avoid legal complications.

With an increasing number of employment tribunal claims, human resources plays a critical role in resolving workplace challenges and conflicts. Additionally, it serves as the organization's point of contact when a formal legal claim is investigated or pursued. Most importantly, it prepares and presents responses to employment tribunal allegations in accordance with professional standards.

7ELW Employment Law is targeted to the needs and aspirations of those who: • Are mandated with responsibility for human resource decision-making at various levels of an organisation, whether operational, tactical, or strategic.

• Are in a team or human resources functional management job with a desire to advance their career.

• Be accountable for the human resources function and perform activities in the absence of a specialist role inside a business.

• Are employed or freelance consultants who assist organisations in achieving their objectives.

• Aspirations for a career in human resources and CIPD professional membership.

The Module's Learning Objectives

After completing this module, learners should be able to: • Clearly describe the fundamental principles of employment law and their application in the United Kingdom (or Ireland), including common law, its purpose, origin, and practical ramifications.

• Demonstrate the capacity to counsel colleagues with important legal consequences of employment-related decisions, plans, or proposals.

• Guidance on the proper course of action to be taken in an employment situation where employment law applies.

• Contribute significantly to the determination of the proper organisational reaction when legal action against a worker or employee is anticipated, threatened, or taken.

• Take an active role in preparing, presenting, and resolving employment tribunal cases.

• Understand how to stay current on employment legal trends. Additionally, be ready to provide guidance to the organisation regarding the influence of these developments on employment policy and practise.

What are the Evaluation Criteria?

This module's assessment can use a multi-sectoral approach. This guarantees that all learning outcomes are evaluated in ways that benefit the learner's experience. The evaluation methods are intended to help learners demonstrate their understanding of the topics they've learned, as well as their ability to apply theory to practise and communicate effectively in the human resources sector.

The following will be used to assess learners:

• At least 50% of the learning outcomes will be assessed summatively.

The remaining learning outcomes will be assessed through a variety of activities such as learning, teaching, and formative assessment, which may include the following: • Integrated work activities • Group and individual presentations • Reports • Timed tests • Examinations • Viva Voce assignments • Case studies

Competency-based assessment centres may choose from the CIPD Assessment Bank or create their own activities. If they choose their own assessments, CIPD must authorise the activities prior to usage.
